Nothing to carry

Vessels

The sculptural work. Moon jars, bottles and large closed forms where the surface is the subject — soda and flame settling into crust, flash and crawl. Thrown for symmetry, then handed to the kiln, which has its own opinion.

These are the pieces made for looking rather than using. A moon jar is thrown in two halves and joined at the belly, which means the seam is always somewhere under the surface, and the form is never quite perfect — that is the appeal. What happens next belongs to the fire.
